Group Health Insurance Self Employed

If you are self employed, one of your concerns is likely getting the best healthcare coverage at the best price possible. Being self employed means you cannot get coverage through your employer, because you are your own employer. However, group health insurance self employed coverage is actually available in some states for individuals considered to be a group of one. Federal law dictates that a group plan contains two or more employees, however some states are able to define this to include groups of one who are the self employed who do not have any employees working for them.

For those who reside in a state offering group coverage for parties of one, you can select policies that are available to small employers. One beneficial legality is that coverage must be provided to small employers on what is called a guaranteed issue. This means they cannot be denied because of the health of any member. Rating limits also apply to group plans for small employers. This is different from individual coverage in the same state because customer seeking individual insurance can be denied or charged a high rate if they are deemed high risk by the underwriting department. Another benefit of purchasing health insurance if you are self employed is that you get a federal tax deduction.

The state insurance commissioner's office can tell you whether or not you are in a state that offers insurance for groups of one. You may also be able to find this information on the Internet. You can also find a great deal of individual health insurance information on the Internet as well. If you cannot get group insurance for yourself in your state, the next step may be to look into an individual policy. You may be able to find an individual policy that is affordable and gives you the coverage you need if you shop around.

You can get group health insurance self employed quotes as well as individual coverage quotes for free on the Internet. There are many different insurance brokers and insurance companies who provide instant free quotes on their websites. These quotes are a good starting point because they give you a reasonable idea as to what you can expect to pay for different types of health coverage.
